Part of a 12’ x 16’ rug woven during the Great Depression out of old clothing, coats, etc. The outer edge (not shown) is green, made from WWI army uniforms. After 50+ years in storage it now resides in a good friend’s living room.
AWESOME is an understatement! Fred's 92 y.o. aunt has several of these in her home...they were made by her mother and she calls them rag rugs. They are still beautiful today and are at the very least 60 years old. AAA
Sept 17, Deb and my anniversary. Like this 'rag rug' she and I have taken bits and pieces, moments and memories and are weaving them into the tapestry, that is our life, together. A little worn and faded, but I think more beautiful with the passing of time. We are so pleased to have added you and Jeanie into that fabric, this year.
Wow, what a great sentiment Marc, and thank you for finding me after all these years and weaving me into the family. I think about it often (being in touch with you and Alana, and our family reunion in Denver) and I'm very grateful for the feeling that I'm now part of a family that I'd previously only imagined from faded photographs. Fate willing, I’m hoping to see you all (and others I’ve yet to meet) many more times in the coming years.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, historic keepsake! I'm happy it has a good home.
